is world renowned as one of the world's finest beaches. Kata attracts a wide range of international tourists, from party goers to families seeking solitude and relaxation. The Beach is lined with tropical palm trees and world class hotel accommodation.
Kata is formed by some narrow roads lined with shops, restaurants, dive shops and hotels. The beach in front of it is large and clean. It´s just a few kilometres from Patong to Karon and it takes about 15 minutes going slowly on a motorbike. A few minutes more and you will be at the Kata and Kata Noi beaches. It is possible to find bars and some entertainment in both Kata and Karon, but not on the same intense level as Patong. |

As beaches go both Kata and Karon are better than Patong, a bit quieter, with less nightlife and entertainment.
The smallest of Phuket's three main tourist beaches, Kata is very different in appearance and style from Karon and Patong Beaches. The beach itself is broad, gracefully curved, and bordered by low-rise structures. The waters are perfect for swimming, and include a vibrant and lively coral reef at the north end, stretching out toward Koh Poo, which lies about half a km offshore. Facilities catering to every price range in clude hotels, bungalows, tour companies, restaurants, bars, and clubs. The Beach is served by a regular daily bus service to and from Phuket Town. |
The pleasant bay of Kata, just a few minutes south of , entices and charms many visitors with its white sands and clear waters. Very popular with families, Kata is an all round favourite due to its spectacular palm-lined beach, great restaurants, lively but not raucous nightlife and varied accommodation options - all close to the beach. From May to October surfers flock to catch Kata's waves and from November to April the beach is alive with sunseekers.
Kata is split into two focal areas: Kata Centre, which is at the northern end close to Karon and Kata South, home to several resorts. Visitors will find an abundance of shops to browse in, from souvenir and ready-to-wear outlets, to 7-Elevens and local mini-marts, to name-brand fashion stores. |

Kata Beach is many people's favourite beach in Phuket. Stunningly beautiful with surfing from May to October, from November to April surfing is replaced by snorkeling and sunbathing and other watersports. The beach is palm lined and fairly busy but never too crowded to be annoying. In the high season, yachts moor just offshore, adding to the ambience and the sunsets here are some of the best in Thailand. Restaurant lined or tree lined, there's a perfect spot for everyone at Kata.
View of Kata Noi Bay, Kata Yai Bay and Karon bay. Over the next hill is Patong Bay with its famous nightlife, shops, big hotels and sweeping stretch of sand. Viewed from the Promthep Cape viewpoint. |
- this cozy bay is found at the end of a dead-end road, just a few minutes' drive over the hill from Kata beach. There's not much to do in Kata Noi, which is precisely the point of coming here. Relax, take a walk along the soft sands, snorkel or swim. It's long been a popular spot for surfers in the monsoon season of May-October, though swimming can be dangerous during this period. The popular Kata Viewpoint, offering a stunning vista across the three bays of Karon, Kata and Kata Noi, is only a 5-minute drive along a winding road towards Nai Harn. |
